GREECE 2003

March 1st , 2003. I'm in the plane since one hour. Direction; Greece. Altitude; 10 400 m. 955 km/h, 58 degrees Celcius!!!!

Nine months ago, thirty high school students realized their dream that they had had for two and a half years. Indeed, on Saturday, March 1st, 2003 the group left for Greece on flight number OA 0424.

Three staff members of Les Segneuries High School, in St-Pierre les Becquets had created this project and acted as chaperons. It was: Nicole Rheault (math teacher), Serge Pontbriant (history teacher), and Helene Couture (school nurse).

We were two of the lucky people who visited Athena, Santorini, and other famous places. On this website you will see pictures and a description of our trip.

I'm so excited. Everybody is in their hotel rooms,(Loutraki) three or four by room.. We are preparing to go to the beach, which is so close that I can see of my balcony. The tour guide told us that the beach isn't a sand one, but a full of tiny little rocks!. the view from my room is so beautiful. There's a large blue sea that doesn't seem to have an end!!! I gotta go, I'll write later.

After about eleven hours, we got off the plane at lunch time. Between Quebec and Greece, it's seven hours time difference. We stayed at Loutraki, an hotel in Corinth. Each evening, our group got a meeting with our chaperones. We talked about our day, what was nice, what wasn't... The first four days, we stayed at the same hotel. In Greece, they eat later than us, usually around 9:00pm or 10:00pm.

My first day was really nice. We took the afternoon off, to explore around the hotel. Some of us swam on the sea (really cold), but most of us just relaxed on the beach. We also walked a bit on the little roads close, and then we went back to the hotel, for supper. We didn't do too much, we are tired, but tomorrow everything will begin !!!! I don't know if I'll be able to sleep, I'm really excited!!

Mycenae was the first place we visited. A lot of fruits trees (oranges...) grow there. There are royal tombs that they have been there for approximately three thousand years!!! We also saw Corinth's canal, who connects the Agean sea to the Ionian sea.

Epidauros is an amazing theatre because first of all, it's outside, on top of a mountain, it can contain 14 000 spectators, and someone seating at the top would hear someone else whispering at the bottom of the stands, we can hear everything.

We saw Epidauros, and I was really impressed. The sound travels so well, it’s amazing!!! And there’s so much steps!!! Wow!!! Everything was made in the 4th century, and it’s still perfect! Then, we got back at the hotel.... It's really funny when we try to speak their language!!! Anyway, I should get my bed, but I probably not right now... I'll see it on time!!!

Delphes is located in the mountains, very high above the sea level. There's a museum with statues and a stone that represents the belly button of the world. Outside, there’s the Apollo temple. The only  bronze chariot in the world can be seen there.

Acrocorinth is the Acropolis of Corinth, a gigantesque fortress. The view from there is incredible. There’s the temple of Aphrodite and a number of shrines. There’s a museum on the site as well.

We took a boat at Piree, the Athena port. After 8 hours, we were in Santorini, an anciant volcano island. The landscape was amazing.

It was a long ride on the boat but it was worth waiting. We walked on a black sand beach, we visited some places of interest. we stayed in Santorini 3 days.

Athena is the capital of Greece. 5 millions on 10 millions of people in Greece are living in Athena. There's the Parthenon on a hill, where we can see all around. The Parthenon is the Apollo temple.

We also had visited other museum, have been at the Cap Sounion.

I liked my trip, I wanna do it again and again. Greece id a fabulous country!

Finally, you should visit Greece. There's so much things to see, you will don't believe it!
